My October Trip up North

Sun Oct 10, 2010 3:37 am

Sunday Oct 3rd thru Oct 6th I went up north to Acme, MI
for the Michigan Emergency Management Association
2010 Summit.
I was invited to bring some of my Civil Defense Collection
to display during the summit.
On my way up on Sunday, just past Bay City I ventured just east of
the freeway and made my way north to west branch.
Then heading west then northwest to Kalkaska, then west
to Acme and Traverse City. Then on Wed. I went back south.
In the larger cities, I didn't spend a whole lot of time searching
for sirens or shelters. I stuck with fire stations, police stations
and city halls.

So here's the pic's

It's a Model 2.

I can remember as a child, when Clare County was predominately all Sterling. Those were the good old days. Excellent photos all the way.

Sincerely yours,

There's a video of that Algier model 5 sounding a noon whistle on Youtube.

That STL-10 in Standish sure is rusty! I love the wooden box covering the controls as well.

What's the little bitty siren under the Model 5 in Sterling?

Nice variety of sirens up there. I love the red Screamer and the beat-up Sterling.

I think that "little" siren under the 5 is an optical illusion. He likely changed angles to get that shot, and caught a roof vent in the process.

It's a roof vent.
If you look a the other photo's of it, it's clearly not on the tower.
