Thunderbolt 1000A (grid-faced) alert/attack - Hoover, AL

Fri Mar 09, 2012 6:40 am

Found a really good video of the old grid-faced Thunderbolt 1000A mounted up on the side of a cell tower, right outside the South Shades Crest Elementary School property. The siren sounds approximately 1 minute each of alert and attack, for the monthly Jefferson County siren test. Seen this siren several times before, but I never knew it had the grids in its horn since it was always facing away from the road.

What a wind up of a throaty bass sound! Sounds fairly healthy for it looking somewhat left to rot in color.

That is the first time I've seen an inservice one setup with the rotator right above the blower box. Always thought that was a collector thing to make life easier

They must have found a blower cover for this one because when I shot these pics back a couple years ago it was missing. Its a very odd setup for a T-bolt, but Jefferson County, AL has several mounts like this with sirens mounted on the side of towers.

You prefer a 1000T because a 1000 has more kick when it starts up???? :?:  :?:

Not only that but because they were the first one to come out, the loudest version of all 3 types, and they have an insane wind-down if the timer is set right.
