THIS is exactly why I prefer Europe's method of siren placement over North America's. Rather than having one big one placed decently far away from another big one, they use many small ones scattered around towns and such, often just a few blocks away from each other. Not only does this method sound so much spookier, but it also is cheaper to maintain (if one small siren needs fixing it will cost less to fix than a large one) and because the sirens aren't as loud, it's easier on the ears for people near them.

I can definitely agree on the ambiance thing! Having lived in a town with E57s not so far from each other, every time that two of them would go off (didn't happen very often, tho) a half-second apart, at peak it didn't make a difference, but at wind-down it literally sounded like one giant Model 77 instead of an ambiance! Will never forget that sound! MUCH spookier than just one having gone off!

Now close your eyes and imagine it's the middle of the night in 1942 and the Luftwaffe is on it's way

INCREDIBLE ambiance! I love how every siren is perfectly pitched.

Do they activate each siren independently? Judging from the different wind-downs, it would appear so.

So these are 10/12 port sirens? What voltage or RPM do they run on across the pond? It sounds quite different than here.

They're 10/12 but they run at around 2840 rpm cause the electricity there alternates at 50 hz instead of 60 hz in North America.
