Jerome, AZ Cosgrave siren update 3-31-2013

Sun Mar 31, 2013 6:00 pm

Hello everyone, for those of you that are interested in the fate of this siren, I am happy to say that it is still in place. However, it's operating condition is still unknown. I noticed that the wires going to and from the original control box were in rough shape, which is a sign that the only remaining Cosgrave siren is likely decommissioned of service and no longer in operation. Here are some pictures that I took with my mobile phone while visiting the siren.

Am I counting 6 stators? MAN that's an interesting siren.....Hopefully somebody can find out if it's been decommissioned and if so, find a way to get a hold of it!

Now that I look closer, It appears it is a coding system. the top stators look larger, and offset, so I'm thinking they slide down on those rods to cover the main 3 chopper/stators to block air flow, sending "pulsed" signals similar to those a Fedelcode with a coding damper does.

That is a HUGE siren. It's probably 1500 RPM like a Denver.

My guess would be that the big stators oscillate left-to-right.

I believe that there is a second stator surrounding the first one which can rotate a partial turn to cover the ports.

Not entirely sure, but I think Federal Signal had a patent like that way back in the day.

Sorry to bump my own topic, but I have fantastic news!

I recently got an email back from the Jerome police chief and he says that this siren still works! :D
