Fyr Fyter siren?

Thu Jul 11, 2013 5:28 am

I've never heard of this before, and it's OLD from 1963  It looks like a Whelen WS-1004 with the arrays turned. It seems like it was made before Whelen's WS sirens. Maybe the first electronic siren in the US?

It was the first ever electronic siren I believe. It sort of reminds me of an EOWS-115 from the horns.

I guess it seems like every siren company that has/had produced electronic sirens has had a connection with Atlas at some point? Fyr-Fyter, ACA/ASC, Whelen, ATI, and FS.

Very neat ad nonetheless!

I know Cobb County, Georgia had several of those. I don't know if any still exist though.

Those are actually Whelen WS-1004s in Smyrna and Kennesaw, not Fyr-Fytrs. Seems that most of those Fyr-Fytrs that were produced stayed up around the northeast region.

I am also wondering what one sounds like. Also, I wonder how loud they are. 1963 was the year my dad was born. Very Neat.

My mom was born in 1963 and my guess is it would sound like a smoke alarm or a fire alarm because Fyr Fyter is a fire equipment company. I have many fyr Fyter fire extinguishers and 1 smoke alarm they made.
