Rare 10/12-port Allertor(s) in Lee's Summit, MO?

Fri Feb 21, 2014 12:08 am

The ACA Allertor in Lee's Summit, MO looks exactly like the former Mason City, IA Allertors, in the color and the way it is mounted. The Allertors in Mason City had the 10/12 port ratio, which is very rare, but may be more common than we think. The Allertor in Lee's Summit also has the shallow intake cone like the 10/12 ones. There was another Allertor in Lee's Summit exactly like this, but it may have been taken down. Could this be another 10/12-port Allertor?

It probably is if it has that style of an intake cone.

There were 2 but I could only find one:

It seems to be on the same mount as the ones that used to be in mason city IA.

The Allertor I know still remains is on a platform between two utility poles at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, on NW Murray Rd. Judging by its appearance, I am 99 percent sure it is 10/12-port.

If you can, get a pair of binoculars and look into the intake. If there is a + like cross in the rotor design, then it is a 10/12 port.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I may have a little more information on this siren. There were at least two Allertor 125s in Lee's Summit that were both installed around the same time: 3rd and Douglas downtown and 1st and Murray next to a church. The Murray siren has been replaced with a 2001-130 as of last fall. I think there also is/was another Allertor to the southwest of downtown either in a park or a neighborhood. I was in Lee's Summit today during the siren test and I think I heard that one. It didn't sound like an 10/12 but it didn't sound like a traditional 9/12 one either. It sounded low pitched like maybe an 8 port? Didn't they offer some Allertors in an 8 port configuration? Also, I'm not positive that its still active and that's the siren I was hearing. I drove by it after the test and it is still hooked up and the power is on but it's been facing to the NE for over 4 years now. Also it has Federal Signal controls on it, could that be a clue?

On a side note, you might check into Oak Grove's Allertors, too. They are very old also and could be 10/12. Sadly, they are disconnected, I believe. One is near 6th and Broadway behind a church and a home and the other is in between 19th and 20th on Broadway.

Yes they offered the shallow cone allertors in 8/12 and single tone 8 also.
