Siren installations

Wed May 02, 2007 1:05 am

how long should it take for a city to get 10 ASC T-128's up and running? The sirens are fully installed and just last week they finally got the conduits hooked up to the control boxes on one in my neighborhood. and at least one is hooked up to power to my knowledge. dont you think the city would be motivated to make sure they have power due to the arrival of tornado season?

Normally, it wouldn't take that long, but they should do so in a high quality manner, as the T-128 is a well built siren.

In september the county installed a new 2001-B series right behind my house and something was wrong with the installation. They were back for five days working on it and testing it every day (High pitched music to my ears) so maybe there's a problem or there just taking there time to make sure its insalled properly.

Working with electrical contractors can be a real PITA. Working with contractors period, actually. I should know. I work for one.

Shouldn't take long to run power and hook them up.
Yes, they should hurry to get them active before tornado season.

mgear, what are those two sirens in your avatar?
Are they really that close together?

One siren is a P-10 having been replaced by the T-135; check out Brent's Siren Pages.

When they installed an SD-10 where I grew up it only took a day to get it installed. They growled tested it within a few days.

Now, some places it takes a while to get electricity hooked up.

I went to Menards 2 weeks ago on a wednesday, I went back friday and Chicago had installed a 2001-SRN-B right next door. That monday, the siren rotated for the monday morning silent test. So less than a week and its completely up and running, and its one of the only sirens outside of downtown thats fed from underground. The rest are overhead from power lines.
