500T

Mon May 21, 2007 5:53 pm

That's just the thing...nobody knows *for sure* what it is. It looks like a dual headed 500T to me roo, but I've never seen one in a Federal catalog.

I tried contacting the city last summer in regards to it (the siren's obviously been sitting for quite some time), but got no response.

If it IS a Federal 500 offshoot, it makes you wonder why they made it, when the regular 500T was already a rotating dual-tone siren. You'd think that making another rotating siren that had two different rotors and stators as opposed to one dual tone rotor/stator would be more expensive. Could it be a precursor to the 500 series??

Who knows. I think we've all speculated on this one but nobody's been able to get a solid answer as to what they are. I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually.

Pete, where is that siren?
I we can ever get to the area we'll look at it.
(I promised my wife that we'll visit Pike's Peak this year.)
Could it be a 2t22 on it's side with the two different reflectors each sized for it's pitch?
Thank you,

Hey Robert...it's in Manitou Springs, right on the way to Pike's Peak. It's on the "main drag" of Manitou, right next to the police/fire department. You might have a little better luck finding out info from them, considering your fire and siren background.

Could be an xt22 on the side...I didn't count the ports when I was there, so I don't know what kind of animal we're looking at.

There is a Siratone 812 in Burrton, about ten miles to the north of me.

Theres a model 1 on the other side of the county (2 years ago at least). It is a fire siren that also serves as a tornado siren. I'll have to go back soon and get a picture.

You live near a 7000? You sure its not just a regular gas powered 2000? If so, you should get pix as this would be the first 7000 ever pictured in the wild (except for that short Kuwait news video).
