Help Finding Byron Exelon sirens

Wed Sep 02, 2015 4:22 am

I've been searching for the last 5 out of the 61 sirens yet to be found in the Byron Exelon system, but can't seem to find any of them. If all of the P-15s are still up when I return to Illinois this fall, I'm planning on recording them before Exelon replaces them, but I want to find the last 5 sirens so I know exactly how many P-15s are left (so far, I'm at 28).

For reference, Exelon numbers their sirens going north to south (e.g. #1 being the northernmost siren and #61 being the southernmost). #7, 40 or 41, 49, 50 and/or 51, and 58 are yet to be found.

There are also 2 P-15s in Davis Junction and 1 T-128 in Oregon that are most likely connected to the system, but aren't owned by Exelon anymore. Those are labeled "No BY" in my map.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That T-128 in the park is owned by Exelon Energy inc. There was a P-15 at the entrance of Oregon with original CD stickers but it was removed in '12.

And if you need help with the map, I know where all of the Byron sirens are, I know the area like the back of my hand. (including the P-15 IN someone's backyard a couple miles West of Oregon).

Yes, any help is appreciated. Thank you.

BTW, how do you know for sure that T-128 is still an Exelon siren? Remember that Exelon numbers their sirens geographically going north to south and so when I found that siren and confirmed most of the numbers of the surrounding sirens, I though for sure that was going to be #46, until I found the other T-128 and it says on the control box of that one BY 46.

as far to my knowledge and I've been told that any sirens in that area that have the BY- (number) on the box is a Exelon siren. These go up clear to outside of Rockford, if traveling on the highway as soon as you get near Rockford and enter a forest area, you see Byron's last exelon siren, a T-128.

Also, in White pines state park there is an ASC- E class with a BY sticker on the box and over by one of the cabins (the one across the gift shop) there used to be an ACA Alertronic also with BY stickers on the box. (Unfortunately, this Alertronic was taken down). There is also a BY siren in Louden park in Oregon, another E class.

I had no idea they had active E Classes! Funny thing is I've passed over those on the map and thought they were just speakers, but it makes sense they're Byron sirens since they're in a spot that I had a missing number for. And since you mentioned it, I found another E Class SW of Oregon off of Scout Rd.

And where exactly is that T-128 at you mentioned? Which highway is it on?

Yup, E-classes are still up and running around the Oregon/Byron area :D mainly because ASC is the main brand around the area.
the T-128 outside of Rockford is on IL-2 I believe.

Are you referring to this one? If so, I already have it mapped.

Nope, not that one. The one that I saw was on a road that didn't curve like this one.

This was at an intersection, not a curve
