How many sirens have you actually touched? When?

Fri May 25, 2007 7:57 pm

Inspired by OrnAlert!

1. The 2t22A I removed from a 45' pole in Lowry Air base.
Touched today, when I alligned Tootie's rotor so both upper and lower rotors blocked their ports.
2. A CD siren we found on a roof of a building in Yantai, China, 8-2006.
When I moved it's rotor either direction, it always stopped blocking the stator ports - preventing animals and snow from entering the unscreened stator.
Felt like there was a magnet attracting the rotor to it's parked position.

Only considerably sized siren I've ever been able to handle was a 2T22A in a motor shop in Wichita. Motor was completely rebuilt: new windings, turned and balanced rotor and new bearings. Siren was reassembled in the shop with new stainless fasteners and new CD Yellow paint. Expensive job but it was still better than getting a new motor for the thing. It belonged to Arkansas City if I remember right.
