I did notice the motor on this one is getting tired but, not quite as bad as the one on 26th and Hamilton.Jake_7367 wrote:It is a very nicely painted siren, but the motor seems to be getting tired. What camera did you use to take the still images? I'm impressed by the huge resolution of 4608x3456
That probably is the case I remember hearing some where that all of Manitowoc's Allertors are single phase. I do not think they have every really done any maintenance to them except for giving the one on 26th and Hamilton a coat of paint. I think the death of the one's that were removed in 2009 were either bad run capacitors or the run capacitors never kicked in because they sounded like they never reached full peak after winding up.holler wrote:Motor sounds normal to me, like a typical 10 horse Allertor. It could be single phase and the run caps are getting a little weak.
It definately looks like it is. I've seen several Thunderbolt's mounted on the side of buildings that way.EOWS1212man wrote:Is it mounted on an old Thunderbolt blower standpipe? Sure looks like one.
The deaths of the Allertors were due to windings burning out. The motor's internals were totally unrecognizable. Last I heard, the Stangel Elementary Allertor was in a motor shop.FSThunderboltfan1000 wrote:That probably is the case I remember hearing some where that all of Manitowoc's Allertors are single phase. How long ago did you hear that it was in a motor shop? I don't know what a motor shop would do with an old siren with a brunt up motor if it is not going back into service.Jake_7367 wrote:The deaths of the Allertors were due to windings burning out.
