Another video featuring Kuwait's old Thunderbolt 7000's.

Tue Jun 07, 2016 1:17 pm

In my opinion, this video has the best shot of all video's of Kuwait's 7000.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwJ8rGw5OB8 Jump to 0:47 for the clear shot of the siren sounding. Unfortunately, this unit is sick. It has probably been replaced by a Mod. It can be heard more in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... raid+siren Another video. At the top right of the screen, you can see the box for the 7000.

Edit: I just realized this is my 500th post!

I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.

Looked like a 7003. Solenoids? But it was cool hearing the multiple thunderbolts in the video!!!
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

I have many hobbies and interests. And I love them all.

I'm pretty sure all 7000's had 1003 heads, still just called the 7000.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

And with the combined powers of research and patience, I unearthed the March 1983 Federal Signal catalog from J. Marcoz's old siren archive.
http://www.jmarcoz.com/sirens/sc7.pdf

The System 7000 is detailed and reveals there were three models:

Model 7012: a single tone Thunderbolt 1000 with the generator. Two signals.

Model 7022: a dual tone Thunderbolt 1000T with the generator. Two signals.

Model 7026: a Thunderbolt 1003 with a generator, giving six signals total. This is the one we've found in the wild.

The System 7000 was largely popular overseas with known locations including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. I have yet to find a "domestic" System 7000 anywhere in the USA.
It was mentioned at some point downtown Detroit had a Model 7026 but nothing has come out of this claim.

It's odd seeing an AF-ish timer with that many functions. lol All of Kuwait's Thunderbolt were replaced with Modulators. If I'm not mistaken Saudi Arabia ordered a rather large system of IForce-3200s last year, so their Thunderbolts may have been replaced.

Yes, very odd indeed. The Thunderbolt 7000 is a very interesting siren. I was looking at one of the diagrams and it seems like Federal used a entirely different blower setup (or the blower is just located inside the cover). One thing that I noticed was that the blower had a air filter over the intake. I wonder why Federal decided to do that. Image

*EDIT* Curious to find out were this Thunderbolt 7000 was located. I looked at the video and luckily there was a sign saying "Bin Misbah St". I searched that up on google maps, but could not get street view. Nor could I get a good satellite view. I searched Misbah St up on Google earth and went back to 2009. I believe that is the Thunderbolt circled in red. I am not 100% sure though. The last time I could see the siren in satellite view was in 2010. In 2012 you could see nothing there anymore. Here are the images.

That is indeed a 7000 Skyler. Here is another one I found that I'm sure is now gone. It is/was on the New English School. The photo was taken shortly after the First Gulf War, which ended in February, 1991. With that being said, I believe the picture to be from Late 1991/Early 1992.

To answer the question, I believe an air filter was on the blower because the blower and controls are in an enclosed space on the 7000. It is similar from what I can tell to the hardened buildings at things like microwave tower sites. Some of the equipment needs to be in certain conditions (usually cool and no sunlight), so maybe the 7000 is the same way?

That 7026 at 0:47 appears to have defective brush/bearing combo, more towards bearings.

There's this 2009 public service announcement from the Kuwait Civil Defense which featured both the T-Bolt (appears to be on a TV/Radio transmitter building) as well as some HÖRMANN electronic sirens. It features the Pulsed-Alert signal.
