Have to wonder what the story behind this is.....

Saw this on the renebates auction site a few days ago before the
auction closed. These things can't be but a few years old. The city
of University Park sold them. UP is right in the middle of Dallas.

$900 for 5 new Whelens? Not bad. I can't figure this deal out.

UP is a pretty "snooty" area. I checked the University Park web site for info on sirens and this is all I could find.

Looks like they dumped their new sirens for one of those phone systems.
Guess those silent siren tests were too much for them. I'm tempted to call
them and ask them what the deal is but it looks to me like that's exactly
what happened. People probably b1tched about the sirens so they yanked
them down and went with the phone system. You know a place has tax
money to burn if they can afford to do that.

Damn.. If they were working that was a seriously good deal.

Which begs the question: who actually purchased them?

It was still rather stupid in my opinion to take them down. They've just signed their own death warrant: no second and outdoor line of defence.

3016s are pictured.... 4008s have a [ like bracket on the back.

thats odd but if they are some of the first 3016s then they have some age on them.

Seems like most of the Metro's cities have new warning systems whether it be Whelen, ASC, Federal, or ATI.

I'm actually not so sure. I am only counting 8 driver ports there. On the 3016, there are 16 ports staggered, so it looks like a hairbrush. I'm not seeing that stagger here. I suppose this is just an early model 4008.

That's University Park for you, as they do some silly things. I hate driving through there because it's a radar detector nightmare. They have the speed limit signs that show you your speed in relation to the limit. I'm not talking about the little carts..these are on a pole that is in the ground.

In regards to the model, that does bring up a good qestion....Are those indeed early 4008's? I've never paid much attention to them before...I just assumed that they were 3016's. They have the old high pitch tones, as I have heard them several times.

well when were they put up? give a littel history on them.
cuse i know the ones around me were put in the 70s so i allways thought those were early birds and we have a great mix of 4008s and 3016s and never heard of any diffrent 4008s. though im allways open to ideas
