I have. The Tbolt on the roof of the Alexandria, Virginia, town hall was black. It's a historic building and they just wanted it to be less conspicuous. What I never saw was one of those "bumblebee" yellow-and-black stripe patterns which seemed to be strictly an "early days" thing from the '50s.

I saw one in Philly on top of a building (a 1000(T) ). I think it turned black over the years do to all the pollution. I've also seen a brown 1000 in NC, a red 1000 in NJ and a pink 1003 in PA and of course quite a few gray and CD yellow ones scattered around. I may paint my 1000 with black and either white or yellow bumblebee sripes just to see how it looks.

All of the old sirens in the Monticello Nuclear Plant's 10 mile EPZ were dark grayish T-1000's. Seen them, never heard. They were so close together, it must have been spectacular when the went off!

San Francisco's old sirens were all black, but no Thunderbolts among them.

palatine had a system of 1003s and 3T22s. now replaced with 2001s. they used to be CD yellow but then repainted brown. i had a 1003 right behind my house. it was actually on plane with my front yard 200' away since it was down a hill. and i mean, literally the horn was on plane with me. loud stuff.
Bringing the joy of siren collecting to the chicago area and more!

Darn, i never got to see one of their 3T22s, though i might have
a long time ago. I do remember seeing those brown Thunderbolts,
but i didnt know they were 1003s.

Palatine doesnt have VFD, do they?? Seems too big to have VFD, so
its probably paid, as with all the towns around here.

The one in Philly is on a building on next to the highway...if you drive a little further past that building(being on your right) there is a modulator along the highway
Thunderbolts, whelen, 2001, and aca own!
