Tippecanoe County, IN RSH-10 Siren Test *VIDEO READY*

Sat Dec 01, 2007 4:45 pm

As promised, I went out in the pleasant 20-degree weather this morning to gather a much anticipated recording of a RSH-10/Thunderbeam.

This particular siren unit is one of many roof-mounted units in the TippCo early warning system. I'd like to point out several things, beginning with the location. It's horrible. I'm not sure what the county was thinking when they installed the unit, but the building it resides upon is level with, if not shorter, than all the buildings around it. I recorded this siren from a parking garage attached to the building, and was about 200 feet away. To make matters worse, this siren seems to be having some major health issues. I am in the process of contacting TEMA about this, however I think that they may already know, seeing as this siren is less than a block away from them. Hopefully it will get fixed or replaced soon.

The siren starts out in alert, but then decides to do its own version of an attack/fast wail signal. Everything about this unit sucks.

That is one of the worst locations to place a siren. What's the point of having a rotating siren if there is no line of sight?

Oh My Gosh! That thing is in desperate need of repair! Even if it means replacing it. Sounds like a power problem... Other then that it was an awesome video.

That siren's sound reminded me alot of the old Model 5 on Dart Hill Rd here in town. It burnt up badly in August. This one is headed in that direction. Someone needs to send a repair crew to this siren, or order a replacment ASAP

Definitely one of the most interesting looking sirens ever designed.

Does anyone know the production dates for this siren?

There are a few scattered around Ohio. Mostly to the east of Columbus.

WOW!!

That Thunderbeam sounds like a router with some funky wood being fed through it.

Have you contacted the EM? Is this siren in the downtown area? Looks like it. I hope the Thunderbeam i am going to record is in great working order, last time i heard it from a distance it sounded perfect. That one doesn't even sound like it got up to full speed.
