Lecompton & Topeka Siren Pictures; 2001 Siren Question

Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:51 am

Well i have taken a few siren pictures over the past few days and thought i would share them.
*My question is, what exactly is a 2001 DC? As seen in some of the Lecompton siren pics, that siren is a Federal 2001 DC, does this mean it runs solely off of battery power?

Topeka
Downtown Topeka, Location: Se Quincy between Se 8th & Se 9th.
*Where i took this picture, is where i think i will go to record this siren in April.
Image
Eastboro, Se 6th & Se Deer Creek Trfwy.
Image
Avondale East Gr. School; Se Colfax & Se Golf Park Blvd.
*This is the closest siren to me, and the siren heard in my home siren videos.

Topeka/Tecumseh
Downing Rd just N. of Se 29th.

Lecompton
Whitfield & E. Woodson Ave. *Yes, it is leaning.

I think that the introduction of the 2001 series of siren was for the purpose of selling a battery-operated siren. I think that the 2001 DC, like other 2001 sirens probably do, normally runs off of the electric current provided to it, running off of the batteries when the power fails.

The 2001 in the pics you have runs off of AC as primary and DC battery backup. You can tell because there is that third box with the heat sink on it. Thats the transformer/rectifier that converts the current. Most 2001's are set up this way. Almost every non-Chicago 2001 Ive seen is like this. Chicago uses sole battery operation, incoming AC power is solely for the battery charger, similar to whelen. All their 2001's and modulators are like this.

I've got an even better question, what does SRNB stand for? Such as the 2001-SRNB

I don't think it stands for anything other than the fact that it was the newer generation -SRN.

I'd say that's how it goes if you take the Thunderbolt's revisions into account: Series A was the first off the production line, Series B had some minor changes to the rotator (correct?) and Series C had a blower change as well as some other tweaks (and also introduced the 1003 line? All 1003 models are all Series C's?).

Goes something like that.

The 2001DC or 2001SRN is the first 2001

The 2001SRNB is the rotator redesign, which came out circa. 2003

The 2001-130 is the current model in production circa. 2006.

They were both called the 2001-DC.
