Sirens in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Sat Apr 11, 2009 4:16 am

My grandparents live in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, Canada, but I go to the USA side (cool, huh?) every year and I am wondering if there are sirens there?

I know that other places in Michigan have them.

Now that is a good question? I understand they used to have some Hurricanes and Thunderbolts in the 1970s, but I don't know if they are still there or not. I wonder if anyone has been up to Sault Ste. Marie recently, and has more current information than I do?

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

The whole area has Streetview, But I haven't found any other sirens yet

I spent an hour and a half with street view looking for sirens there. Nice find. Can't make out what it is though.

Looks like a Model 5 or something like that.

I checked municipal buildings, parks and school grounds figuring i'd get lucky, but all I saw was the one on the FD.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but either I've lost my marbles due to a recent migraine or I heard what I think is a Model 5T siren. :)

EDIT: Just to point it out I am currently on the Canadian side of Sault Ste. Marie, but the two cities are literally next to each other. I'll have to look around here for the fire department.

I was in Sault Ste Marie, MI last year, and I can say for sure that there is a Model 5-like siren on top of the Locks administration building. I have a photo - I'll see if I can post it in the next day or so.

I apologize for the bump, but the FD siren is a GCS Model 5 that does 10:00 PM blasts. I heard it when I was up there a few years back.
