Dickson to research adding more Emergency Weather Sirens

Thu Jul 09, 2009 2:24 am

My mom showed me this article from the newspaper..

By Chris Gadd and Teri Burton - The Dickson Herald

"The City of Dickson may get more emergency weather sirens in addition to the one located at the William D. Field Industrial Park (That's where the Sentry 16V1T-B is).

City Administrator Tim Waychoff recieved approval by the Dickson City Council at its meeting Monday to research installing a new siren system for the city. The system would consist of anywhere between four to eight sirens, he said.

Waychoff said the city has about $100,000 in spending capitol and that each siren could cost anywhere between $15,000 and $25,000 "depending on the system and quality."

Waychoff said the matter of installing the emergency sirens came up a couple of months ago and that it's going to take some time and research before we will have any concrete information to present to the council.

Councilman Richard Arnold, Ward 2, said at the meeting that if and when the system is approved on all levels, the new sirens should be put in at one time, rather than over a 3-to-5 year period. The council agreed on that plan of action."

Thank GOD, Dickson isn't like Nashville at least! I'm glad this is happening, we've been needing this system forever. :D

Thats great! I hope they get some more 16V1T-B's and some of the newer 40V2T-B's. Also can't wait to hear and see some recordings. Keep us posted.

I don't know as of yet what we are getting, but I'll keep in contact with the EMA and Community Foundation and see what goes on. Besides, that reminds me, I need to remind them NOT to choose ATI..

Most likely we will get Sentrys since we already have one that's fairly new - installed sometime in the late 90's.

Sentrys would be the best option considering sound and compatibility with existing sirens.
Still close enough to a Fed Sig 550AT to drive out on test day: First Friday in May - 7PM!

Be nice to have some 40V2T-Bs in Dickson. :D
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

Likely that won't happen, but it'd be nice if it did! Besides, they said Dickson needs 4-8 sirens (city-wise), so I don't know.

We'll see.

Compatability isn't an issue, since Sentry has the most low tech controller/decoder on the market, and pretty much any other controller will work with it since it's so basic.
