Toronto Mobil Directo?

Thu Dec 03, 2009 4:48 am

While browsing through a friend's photo collection on Flickr, I ran across this siren from ACA. I am thinking that this maybe a Mobil Directo, or at the very least an Allertor? This siren is located in the Yonge Street area in Toronto.

Nah, I'm sure it's a Mobil Directo. If you look at the right of the siren, you can see the gearbox that drives the rotator.

Also, the lower horn/intake is smaller than an Allertor. A common trait of Mobil Directos .

Here is another unit in the Portlands section of Toronto. Talk about being mounted close to the ground.

They are Mobil Directos. These were built from World War 2, until mid 1960's, when the first Allertor came out.

Here's another photo of one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thnkfst/118172521/

It takes a couple of seconds for the frame to load - you'll see the street map first.
