Here are some scans of the 1952 Bulletin 97 introducing the Thunderbolt.

It's hard to tell from the size of your scan but that dimensioned Thunderbolt picture looks like a photo. Several people over the years have said that that version of the Thunderbolt didn't actually exist. That it was only an artist rendering. The big yellow and black "Directional Beam Siren" picture looks somewhat like a rendering but the dimensioned picture of the Thunderbolt looks like a photo to me. I guess I just repeated myself. Does it look like a photo to you Eric? You have the original bulletin. Just curious.

It looks like an old photo to me. Cause a drawing rendering wouldn't show the bolts or the insides of the horn. But the Yellow and black one looks like the same one, but with a taller standpipe. They have to of made a few like the photo, Prototypes. And they could of been in production that year (1952) before they changed it to the style we all see nowadays

Thanks for scanning it larger. It might have had a little airbrushing done on it for clean-up but it's definitely a photo.
I'd give just about anything to see the insides of that thing!

I've got lots of old advertisements from the 1950's.
They have alot of photo's used just like this.
I'd like to find out what they used to add the photo to the print to make copies.

Has anybody seen a T-Bolt with the horn tilting down so aggressively, every T-Bolt that I have seen had projected (almost) straight out.

Never seen a Thunderbolt with that crooked horn. I've seen one from 1953, and it had a normal horn.

I guess the canted-down projector was just another idea the engineers tried out. It wouldnt really work to an advantage on a stubby 30foot pole, but I think It would work better in a very high mounted installation, where the tilt would cause more of the sound waves to go down over the building, rather than the atmosphere

I'm thinking they first thought that those would be placed on tall buildings in major cities. Pointing down up that high would make more sense.

Someone sent me this pic several years ago. Don't know where it is or if the siren is still there. It might have been Brett Jones who sent it to me. I can't remember. Notice the straight, even with the bottom of the chopper housing, horn support. Wonder if this was a local modification or if it came from Federal this way. :?:
