Federal Model 5 Removal and Disassembly

Mon Jan 03, 2011 12:49 am

This is a model 5 that has been abandoned for many years. We finally talked the fire dept into letting us have the siren. It was on a very tall tower and the hardware was very rusty. Some of the pictures are of the actual removal and the others are of us taking the siren apart. There will be more photos to come as we get it all the way apart and as we start restoring it. The siren was still free and would turn easily. The housing was never painted and has some pretty bad rust places on it.

Here are the pictures:

Wow, what fire station did this come from? Looks like an old abandoned station.

This siren came from the Carolina VFD's old station. It has been abandoned for many years. The building is in south Charlotte near Pineville. The fire dept is now in a building around a half of a mile down the road.

Great job getting the siren! Congratulations!

Does the new station have a siren at/near it?

No, they have not used this siren in almost 20 years. The new station is in a very dense area of Charlotte with some very expensive houses, there would be no way they would be able to run a siren in that area without causing a huge up roar.

Yup, sure did. That was why we tried so long to get this one so we could test it off the house power.
