Grand Canyon trip.

Fri Jan 14, 2011 4:07 am

Hey all,i'm going on a trip to the Grand Canyon with the family this summer, and gonna visit the siren graveyard in Tuscon and possibly get an SD-10. (If they aren't all gone first)So,three questions 1. What tools are needed for getting a housing of a SD-10 and how can i lift it in a back of a truck?(Charles, wanna come help me with that? ) 2. What sirens are located near the Grand canyon? I think an old post said that a town near it had red Whelens that were made not to rotate, and were used for possible flooding. 3. What time do they test near there? I have no exact date on when we are going yet,but i bet i can get there in time for a test!

It's a model 3. And the red Whelens are in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix. I would think you would only need a set of combo wrenches, crescent wrenches, and some PB B'laster for one of those SD-10's.

As far as your trip to Grand Canyon, look up and book NOW for Canyon Dave. My wife & our 2 daughters went west about 6 years ago, found Canyon Dave thru a tour book, sounded neat, and it WAS!!!!!!

Dave grew up around the G.C., knows it intimately and is an absolute wealth of knowledge about it. We were booked for the afternoon tour, which in our case (it was about October, i think?) ended just about sundown. Also fortunately, we were the only ones to have booked that afternoon, so it was just the four of us, and Dave. It helped a lot that we were not (as Dave so eloquently put it) 'duds'; we're all very inquisitive, love science and nature, and asked a lot of questions. Since we had shaved a couple school days off the girls' calendar to make the trip, one was required by one teacher to write a report, based on the trip. Dave's tour made my daughter's report a slam-dunk A!

you may want to bring the following tools: a good ratchet set (with a good set of sockets), maybe a power drill, possibly a torch and some WD-40. but thats just me.

Don't forget a bucket of swear words, because you might end up using them, :P
