My Thunderbolt 1000TB + Resto/Install Pics (Updated 5-28-11)

Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:48 pm

We headed to Jonesboro, GA the other day to go get a new litt--er..big toy of mine:

It's a Thunderbolt 1000B C series, single tone and single phase. Pulls 52 amps running. I've also got the RCM1B for it that I need to rewire the control circuits and Agastat time delay relay on. Overall, it's in great shape!

Update April 11, 2010:

Well the time has finally came, and the Thunderbolt head is now completely restored! All that's left now is the mounting flange, dual tone chopper, AR timer and another RCM/ARCH box (empty) for the AR timer and backplate. I've found someone with all four of the above so that isn't a problem anymore. The blower also still remains, however we've decided to paint it the same color of the outside of the shop so it will blend in better and not stick out like a sore thumb (plus save me time and money on yellow paint).

I give my dad credit on most of the paint work, he did an awesome job!

Enjoy!

Congrats on your Thunderbolt 1000B. Are you going to repaint it in the future?

Thanks man! Yeah we are going to give it a new coat of paint. My dad thinks it looks best painted yellow, like the other Thunderbolts in Nashville are, so we both decided on painting it the closest match possible to CD Yellow. Mechanically everything is in mere perfect condition, so all we have to do is change the oil and lube the blower and rotator parts.

After this, we plan on installing it behind the shop where there is a pool pump running on a 60 amp circuit - which is plenty to handle the Thunderbolt. Add a transfer switch on the pool pump to cut the pump off when the blower is running (to keep the circuit from overloading) and it'll be ready to roar away. :D

In the description of one of his videos, it says:
...since its removal from a nuclear plant in North Carolina.
So, it was probably installed at a nuclear plant in North Carolina.

Wonder what's the deal with the paint on those Thunderbolts down there.
Looks like they were primered and never painted. Maybe they were ordered with only primer thinking they would be painted upon delivery and never were painted. Who knows....

Your davidsonfirealarms.com links comes up "account suspended" just in case you didn't know.

Oh. Did you snap a pic of the RCM?

The T-bolts came form the factory yellow, but the nuke plant painted the top light gray and the bottom brown so they blended in with the surroundings.

They may have been from NC...
Another plant I know of that used that same color scheme was Oconee Nuclear Power plant (Duke Energy) of Seneca, SC.
