Kinda Low....

Wed Nov 14, 2012 4:00 pm

Found this on streetview this morning, so I figured I'd drive out to the lake and make sure I wasn't seeing something else.

Granted, the installation makes sense because of how high the dam is, but still....and right next to the road! +1 to the Army Corps of Engineers. It looks like they have one or two more installations like this at DFW area lakes.

Is this at the Lewisville Dam?

Texas siren installations amaze me. I was expecting to see it mounted 4 foot in the air, in a playground next to a pre-K and across the street from a library.

Ray Roberts, but I am about 90% sure there is one on Lewisville too. The road was closed today, so I couldn't get out there. Joe Pool looks to have a pretty low mounted Screamer or 5 as well. All of the other dams that are in the Ft. Worth District that are managed by the Corp of Engineers have sirens on them. [Grapevine, Benbrook, Etc.]

That's pretty funny. It seems like someone could just come by at night and steal it, haha. That's a pretty new-looking Model 5 too; it must have been manufactured soon before the line was discontinued.

A bit of a coincidence that this was posted; there's a dam near me that apparently has a siren system (not sure how many), and I was thinking of going hunting for them tomorrow.

Are they still using this siren at the Grapevine Dam? The manufacturer is still a mystery to me.

Dear God, that thing is low

Out of curiousity, where is this exactly at the dam?

If you think of it this way, it is lower than the road! That is pretty low.

That is definitely an odd setup - if you're going to need a power shed for the siren, at least put the siren on top of the shed instead of next to it!

My thoughts exactly. If the dam were to overflow it would flood out the siren, rendering it useless when it would be needed the most.
