Fremont, OH Thunderbeam 7-5-14

Tue Jul 08, 2014 2:31 am

The final stop of the day led me to a meet up with TommyBNSF. This Thunderbeam is located at Harmon Field/Stamm Elementary near the center of the city. It runs in 3 minutes of alert for the monthly test. Obviously wind and my camera don't get along too well

That rotator is not a happy camper...
Don't wait. Take a siren photo today.

Proud owner of a frozen Model A, a Darley Champion "L", an Ademco 12V beehive, a few horns, a brass whistle and several old weather radios that sound like sirens. Those last three count, right?

I was about to say! Doesn't look like the disc did a full turn until after the siren shut down. Might need to be reported to whatever agency does maintenance on it.

Yeah, it is only sending maximum sound to one side of the site. May be time for replacement. Thunderbeams are hard to find someone willing to fix them, or that knows how to.

Frankly, it was a bad design.

May as well rip out the rotating mechanism and fabricate a metal cone to set on the floor of the cage and reflect the sound in all directions at once.

Well Great minds think alike I guess... I got it! Take the cage, the rotation mechanism and everything else but the guts. Then just put little projector horns on all the ports! Foolproof! I bet they don't have anything like that yet ;)
