Railroad Yards With Sirens

Here's an interesting photograph that was taken at the Juniata Shops of Norfolk Southern in Altoona, Pennsylvania. You can see a Federal STH-10 on top of the roof.

This Federal Model #2 was shot at the East Deerfield Yard of the Boston & Main Railroad.



Any other railroad yards out there that have outdoor warning sirens?

Delanson's 2001. Actually, the railroad is how Delanson got its name (Delaware + Hudson line ran through there).
Edit: there is also an STH-10 mounted on a repair platform (like some WWII sirens) in the Golub Railyard across the South Schenectady Fire Dept.

The Hinkle Railyard in Hermiston, Oregon has two Whelen Vortexes, a Whelen Omnidirectional, and a 20V2T (mounted on a tower). Portland's (OR) Albina Railyard has at least one Whelen Omnidirectional in the southern portion. These are all that I know for around here.

What do you mean by that?

I think he is asking why the sirens are there. It's interesting that portland has the whelens at the railyard and yet portland the city of trains and possible mass hazardous chemical spills doesn't have any. Hermiston is interesting as well but at least there is more than one.

Ah. That makes sence.
Funny that they have a warning system. Ontario is in a "danger zone". If the Owyhee dam breaks, were gone in 45 min. flat. EMA has said we may add a siren system (2001-DCs) in Ontario!

I've been to the Hermiston rail yard several times and have not seen any sirens. Umatilla County removed all the Whelens in 2011 when the last of the chemical weapons at the army depot were destroyed. I'll have to go back there and look again. However, I am quite sure that if there is a siren there, it is not used, since I live in Hermiston and the only outdoor warning device in use is the goal horn at the high school (a large Federal ship horn).
