Whelen WPS 2910 vs. Whelen WPS 4004

Sun Sep 16, 2007 4:22 am

Both are rated 129 decibels @100', but the 2910 appears to have greater sound coverage than the 4004.

2910 range
70db @ 6,100'
60db @ 12,200'

4004 range
70db @ 6,000'
60db @ 12,000'

Which is better? I think the 2910 is better because the sound goes a bit further than the 4004, produces equal sound in every direction, and has no moving parts. What I want to know, is why more towns choose the 4004 over the 2910?

Main reason is cost, the 2910 costs almost twice as much as a 4004.

Ya. I'd say cost. The directional sirens are cheaper. Less drivers to produce the db's at a distance due to the directional design.

I like the omnidirectional speakers though because the sound is a constant. You don't get the "now you hear it now you don't" at great distances.
Q2B or not 2B that is the question.
