3T22 moding

Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:40 pm

I want to do something different with my 3T22 that does not require welding- so it is not a permanent change in case I change my mind. I was originally going to weld a mounting bracket to the motor to make a Sterling look-alike, but after talking to someone we both came to the conclusion it was a bad idea. So instead I think I am going to do away with the horns. Most of them are smashed anyway, so I can either keep a set of horns and create a skirting for one of the stators, or just flat out do away with horns and make an imitation Soundmaster. Any ideas are welcome, as this is my winter project. :P

I've always thought it would be cool to see a T22 turned into a horizontal siren. You should try that.

I'd go with the idea of making it skirted, but if you somehow find the option to make it horizontal and are really good with sheet metal, I was thinking something along the lines of a Sterling!

What about a Sirex type design?
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

As long as you have a new set of ball bearings, and a thrust washer to control the endplay the 3t22 will work fine on it's side. We fired up Rhines 2t22 strapped down to a trailer and it didn't hurt it.

Other than the lack of a thrust washer (.50 part), I don't see why everyone keeps saying that those sirens can't be ran horizontally. Ball bearings will operate in any position, and a good quality set will last you a lifetime.

If I can find some sort of clamp om base for the motor I would go for the whole Sterling idea, guess I will look around ebay and Grainger.

It would be time consuming & expensive, but I wonder how a 2/3T22 would sound with exponential horns.
